Chunchulli Alto 2025
People Helped: 1150+
Span: 36.7m
In the spring of 2025, the UAlberta Engineers in Action Chapter, in collaboration with the University of Toronto and UBC Okanagan chapters, constructed a suspended pedestrian footbridge in Chunchuli Alto, Bolivia. The Chunchuli Alto River was previously impassable for nearly half the year due to flooding, isolating the community from essential services such as schools, healthcare, and markets. This 36.7-meter bridge provides safe year-round access, significantly improving the quality of life for the community’s 1,190 residents. By working closely with local stakeholders and international mentors, our team not only addressed critical infrastructure needs but also gained invaluable hands-on engineering experience. This project embodies our mission to bridge gaps and transform lives, while celebrating the milestone of completing our 10th bridge.
